Staff run for local charity
On the 28th June 2019, Cayman National entered a team of four to take part in the annual promenade relay organised by KPMG raising funds this year for the Manx Diabetic Group, an Isle of Man registered charity whose primary goal is to help all Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics on the Isle of Man and ensure they received the best care and treatment possible.
Manx Diabetic Group is currently raising money and awareness for Monitors4Kids, a parent-led campaign with the aim of raising money to end finger-prick blood testing in children, with newer, painless technology. The money raised aims to provide children in the Isle of Man with sensors, which will enable monitoring of blood sugar levels on a mobile phone or handset – and alerts parents when levels dip dangerously low.
Cayman National’s heroic participants were Sarah Hogan, Audrey Butterworth, Reece Lake and Marc Kelly. The team achieved an accumulative time of 00:53:07, with Reece running the quickest leg at 11:01 mins followed by Marc at 11:29mins.
As usual, the race is hugely supported by local companies with a combination of 56 solo runners and teams of 2 or 4 runners. The race started from the Marine Drive archway on Marine Drive in Douglas. As a team of four, each of Cayman National’s runners had to complete a distance of 2.5km. All teams were timed using timed baton technology which was provided by local company, Manx Timing Solutions.
The gruelling race took place in unusually hot temperatures but nonetheless, everyone enjoyed the challenge in support of this year’s worthy charitable cause.
