Business Applications Manager

Role Summary

Cayman National Bank (Isle of Man) Limited is seeking a Business Applications Manager who will work as a member of the Projects team on the bank and trust company’s core business applications, ensuring they are configured, integrated, and performing in line with business needs.

This role is critical in a digital banking and trust company environment, acting as the bridge between business operations, system vendors, and I.T. infrastructure. The role holder will have deep functional and technical knowledge of the bank and trust company’s core systems, understand how they interact, and ensure they evolve to support future business requirements. The role combines technical insight, business process understanding, and change delivery expertise, enabling the bank and trust company to continuously improve its digital capabilities.

Essential functions and role responsibilities

  • Application Ownership & Configuration: Maintain deep knowledge of core banking and trust company digital platform configurations. Own and document system setup, product rules, interest calculations, and workflows. Ensure systems are aligned with business processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Change & Development Management: Track upcoming system developments, upgrades, and vendor roadmaps. Translate business needs into system requirements and efficient architecture. Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to plan and deliver changes.
  • Testing Strategy & Execution: Define testing approaches for new developments and changes. Schedule and coordinate testing activities across teams. Ensure readiness of systems and people for testing phases (Development, user acceptance testing, regression testing, etc.).
  • Systems Integration & Data Understanding: Understand how systems interact and share data across the bank and trust company’s ecosystem. Support reporting and analytics by identifying where key data resides. Ensure integrations are robust, efficient, and well-documented.
  • Incident & Problem Management: Lead triage of production issues, leveraging system knowledge to diagnose quickly. Collaborate with I.T. to resolve incidents and implement fixes. Maintain logs and root cause analysis for continuous improvement.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Build strong relationships with system providers and hosting partners. Monitor service levels, escalate issues, and negotiate roadmap priorities. Stay informed of upgrades, patches, and new features.
  • Collaboration with I.T.: Align application changes with infrastructure updates (e.g. security patches). Coordinate deployments and ensure technical readiness. Support I.T. in maintaining system performance and availability.
  • Scheduling & Coordination: Manage timelines for testing, releases, and change windows. Ensure stakeholders are informed and prepared for upcoming changes. Maintain a forward-looking schedule of system activities.
  • Team Knowledge Development: Actively share system knowledge and best practices with team members. Mentor and support the development of 2–3 high-potential team members to become future application specialists. Foster a culture of learning and documentation to reduce single points of failure and build resilience in the team. Encourage collaborative problem-solving and cross-training to strengthen team capability.

Education/Certification

Relevant professional certifications are advantageous, but not essential.

Required knowledge

A strong working knowledge of banking systems and procedures, a solid and practical understanding of banking risk and regulatory requirements and experience in using a variety of business software applications.

Minimum experience

Experience in business applications and financial services is essential.

Skills/Abilities

A strong understanding of core banking and trust company systems and digital platforms. Experience in application configuration, testing, and change delivery. Knowledge of system integrations, data structures, and reporting flows. Excellent stakeholder management and vendor coordination skills. The ability to translate business needs into clear designs and technical requirements. Experience in incident management and root cause analysis. Familiarity with infrastructure dependencies and I.T. collaboration. Leadership qualities to mentor and grow a small, high-performing team.
